Tubi Terrors: Found Footage (RANKED... AGAIN)

Tubi Terrors is a somewhat reoccurring series about horror movies that can be streamed for free on Tubi.

Found footage is one of my favorite subgenres of horror. When it’s executed properly, found footage can be terrifying. It doesn’t take a big budget to effectively scare an audience, many found footage films have proved that. Nearly two years ago I watched over 30 found footage movies on Tubi and ranked them, and I’m doing it again.

Below are found footage movies available to stream on Tubi, ranked from worst to best.

LEXI

Influencer “Laughing Lexi” has gone missing. As viewers try to piece together what happened to her, they’re met with strange results.

A horror movie that pokes at how influencers and content creators tend to over-share. If you’re familiar with my found footage expectations, you’ll know that performances are the biggest thing for me, and I thought the acting in Lexi could’ve been better. Sadly I couldn’t get into it.

My Personal Rating: 1/5

DEADWARE

In the late 90’s, two friends video chat and stumble upon a haunted web browser game.

The story is your standard “friends coming together via video chat” and as the night goes on things get creepy. I can appreciate the creativity of having this set in a different era, especially with it being a lower budget found footage flick. There were scenes where dialogue was too on-the-nose and the performances lacked because of it.

My Personal Rating: 1.5/5

HEIDI

After two boys find a mysterious doll in an attic, they’re haunted by unexplained and disturbing events surrounding it.

I had seen a recommendation for it on TikTok, and decided to follow through since I’m a sucker for scary dolls. Sadly it didn’t live up to my expectations. The premise was great and I did enjoy it for the most part, but the camera effects and performances were what brought it down for me.

My Personal Rating: 2/5

FOLLOWERS

Documenting their every move, a social media couple go on a camping trip. Halfway through the trip, they’re met by a duo making a documentary about how easy it is to track people thanks to social media.

I liked the premise of this movie a lot. There’s a great twist halfway through the movie that made it creepy but slowly began to lose that momentum as it kept going.

My Personal Rating: 2/5

A TOWN FULL OF GHOSTS

A couple move to a ghost town with plans to restore it but find out there’s an evil that lurks.

I think the premise for this was really cool - as I usually do with most found footage movies. Performances and some of the early tension was good, but sadly it began to lose my interest toward the end.

My Personal Rating: 2/5

FOUND FOOTAGE

Footage discovered by police show a young serial killer going on a murderous rampage.

This was a slow movie with disturbing moments and a good ending. The only reason it isn’t ranked higher is because I did find myself getting distracted easily and bored.

My Personal Rating: 2.5/5

GODFORSAKEN

An indie documentary crew travel to a small town to investigate and document after a strange occurrence happens at a funeral.

Godforsaken was a decent found footage movie. While performances were a little off at times, the plot was something that I found very interesting. There are a handful of animal deaths in this movie, so if that’s something that will upset you I’d avoid this movie.

My Personal Rating: 3/5

LAST RADIO CALL

Through recovered body cam footage, the wife of a missing officer tries to piece together what happened to him.

Last Radio Call has some great performances and kept my interest throughout the whole thing. Isaac Rodriguez, who directed this also directed A Town Full of Ghosts and Deadware. Between the three, this one is ranked the highest due to it’s story and impressive performances.

My Personal Rating: 3/5

ANDY BAKER TAPES

The film follows food blogger Jeff Blake as he goes on a road trip with his brother Andy Baker.

If Creep was on the Food Network, this is what the result would be. It was a slow movie that took its time to build suspense. The payoff isn’t as great as one would hope. The performances and chemistry between the two leads is one of the best parts of the movie.

My Personal Rating: 3/5

UNTITLED HORROR MOVIE

Six friends decide to shoot their own horror movie, unknowingly summoning a violent spirit who picks them off one by one.

It’s a fun movie with a cool premise and the meta aspect made for good comedic moments. Some of the performances could’ve been stronger but for a satirical horror they were appropriate.

My Personal Rating: 3/5

INNER DEMONS

Inner Demons follows a reality TV crew known for their “interventions” as they follow a sixteen year old girl fighting an addiction but is suffering from something much more demonic.

This is a great possession found footage movie. The performances are strong. The story is gripping and inventive. The teen uses drugs to bury her possession, which makes for good footage for the reality TV crew when she’s in rehab. The only thing that bothered me about Inner Demons was this weird subplot where the grown cameraman was developing romantic feelings for the teen.

My Personal Rating: 3/5

E-DEMON

A demon manipulates a group of friends on a video chat, possessing multiple people at once and making it hard to tell who can be trusted.

This film seemed like it would be a slow burn, but it took off very quick. The performances hindered it at first, but, by the end, the performances were some of the best parts. E-Demon has an interesting concept. The idea of multiple people being possessed at once is terrifying and not knowing who is possessed added to the suspense.

My Personal Rating: 3/5

BUTTERFLY KISSES

After discovering a box of video tapes showing film students making a documentary about a local legend, a filmmaker heads out to prove the legend and release his own film but begins to lose himself along the way.

It has a Blair Witch Project feel to it but sets itself apart by its plot. A filmmaker discovers the original tapes and tries to edit it together to pass off as his own. The performances are good. The suspense and scares are effective. Overall it’s a creepy found footage movie.

My Personal Rating: 3.5/5

EVIL TAPES

A found footage anthology that follows a videographer who accepts odd jobs that lead to terrifying ends.

For a lower budget found footage, the effects and performances are good. The setup for each segment is the same, but the segments do get progressively creepier.

My Personal Rating: 3.5/5

CAPTURE KILL RELEASE

A couple plans to murder a random stranger just for fun, but things get a bit grisly when one begins to get cold feet before the murder.

This movie is unsettling. It’s graphic and bloody and not for the squeamish. Performances are good and the story is one that kept my interest throughout.
