Tubi Terrors: Sea Monster Edition

Tubi Terrors: Sea Monster Edition

Tubi Terrors is a somewhat reoccurring series about horror movies that can be streamed for free on Tubi.

There are a lot of sea monster movies on Tubi. Every time I thought I was ready to start writing, another would pop up and I’d need to watch it to include it on this list. I ended up stopping after a while so I could finally write, but there’s so many still on Tubi that seem to be worth watching. For this edition I’m focusing on animals, mermaids, and Creature From The Black Lagoon type of monsters, but no sharks.

This Tubi Terror’s style is going to be a little different than previous ones because I’m going to try to present my opinions of each movie by pros and cons.

DEMON OF PARADISE

After being awakened by dynamite used for fishing, a sea monster emerges from a lake to terrorize a resort. It is up to the local sheriff, the resort’s owner, and a herpetologist to take on the monster and save locals and tourists from the monster.

DISLIKES:

  • Why were they using dynamite to fish?

  • Kind of boring.

LIKES:

  • 3 boat explosions.

  • 1 helicopter explosion..

  • A man in a fake gorilla costume trying to scare tourists.

  • A tropical shootout.

  • Low budget monster costumes.

BLOOD SURF

A documentary crew and two surfers travel to an island to take part in a trend called bloodsurfing. They get more than what they bargained for though when suddenly they’re picked off by a giant crocodile.

DISLIKES:

  • So many boobs, and for what reason? Sigh.

  • Why is there a sex scene like that infamous one in Showgirls in this movie? And why is it over a scene of people being eaten alive?

  • The monster CGI.

LIKES:

  • Decent acting.

  • Decent monster practicals.

  • BOAT EXPLOSION.

HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP

Experiments to help revitalize a fishing town backfire as sea creatures begin to terrorize the small community.

DISLIKES:

  • Multiple dogs die.

  • It’s a dated movie due to content and dialogue.

  • Women get assaulted every 20 minutes.

LIKES:

  • Knockoff Psycho soundtrack.

  • Vic Morrow.

  • Creature design.

KILLER MERMAID

College friends reunite on vacation and discover the lair to a mermaid with killer intentions.

DISLIKES:

  • Not a whole lot of killer mermaid moments.

  • Soap opera drama.

  • Wish we could hear the mermaid’s song.

LIKES:

  • Kristina Klebe.

  • FRANK NERO.

  • The “you’re all doomed” seaman character.

  • The mermaid is lovely and terrifying.

BOG

After using dynamite to fish, a local fisherman and a young woman are killed by a sea creature that was awakened from the depths.

DISLIKES:

  • Awkward acting.

  • Awkward make-out scene.

  • WHY ARE THEY USING DYNAMITE TO FISH?

  • Another sea creature assaulting women.

LIKES:

  • Interesting dialogue.

  • Low budget monster.

  • The “you’re all doomed” character that is essentially a witch.

  • Cliffhanger ending.

SLITHIS

A nuclear leak creates a deadly sea creature called Slithis who begins to terrorize Venice, California.

DISLIKES:

  • Dead dogs.

  • Awkward introduction with children.

  • Not much creature though. Just a lot of creature searching.

  • Bad mood lighting for a date scene on a boat.

  • Weird, eccentric cop.

  • Rather boring.

LIKES:

  • Mischievous music playing over the really weird opening scene.

  • Lots of blood.

  • Creepy creature.

  • Extremely long, somewhat comical of a kill where a woman is getting thrown around on a boat.

  • A high school journalism teacher is one of the lead investigators.
